Child Safety with SANUS TV Mounts

Last year we splurged on Black Friday and bought a family TV that is a fancy flat panel and ditched our old huge tube TV, woohoo! Not only is it sleek and sensible with some great features we have come to love while enjoying family movies but it’s also great for maximizing our living space. What I didn’t know when we purchased it and only recently learned is that flat panel TVs can be dangerous even deadly to children.

Sanus logoWith the increasingly popular larger sizes and new ultra thin designs, today’s flat panel TVs can easily tip over when bumped or pulled, toppling off of furniture posing a safety risk to curious little ones. There is an affordable and easy solution for families with SANUS. SANUS is the leading designer and manufacturer of flat panel TV wall mounts, and has partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide. By educating consumers on the risk of unsecured flat panel TV’s, SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide offer safe solutions for families across the nation by reducing TV tip-over related injuries and fatalities.                                                   22A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed these chilling facts:

  • A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
  • Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
  • Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
  • An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
  • Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006  to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%

I am aware of the risks flat screen tvs pose to children. One of ours in mounted to the wall, but we have two more that need to be secured!

Yes I do………….that is why our tv was anchored when my kids were growing up as well as our grandchildren……..but I so love the new slim tv with wall mounts makes it more stylish and safer for the kids.

I wasn’t really aware of the risk of flat-screen TVs until I read this info! We have a flat screen mounted to an entertainment center so it won’t fall over, but I wish we had a wall mount to keep little fingerprints off the TV. :)

  4. I just make sure they don’t touch the TV, but this would be great to have!

I never really thought of the danger of flat screen tvs. They are so much lighter than the older tube tvs, but I guess that may be why they tip over more easily. The son of a friend of mine had an old tv fall on him. He lived, but he now has brain damage. Going to make sure to get mine secured before my little one is mobile.

  6. I am aware and it isn’t secured like it should be so I really hope I win this

We are aware. Ours is not secured in any way
