After reading about some unsanitary and quite scary situations with feminine hygiene products lately I have completely gone away from using tampons, FOREVER. I am was guilty of not always taking the earth friendly reusable route before now but from this point on I am going to be a Diva Cup user. This is one of the ways cloth diapers has turned this mama more ‘crunchy’ and I am happy to make the change!
So what is the Diva Cup? It is a non-absorbent menstrual cup that simply collects menstrual flow. It is inserted in the vagina and sits at the lower base of the vaginal canal. It is worn internally, yet because it is soft and smooth, it cannot be felt nor will it leak when inserted properly.
The Diva Cup is the most clean and convenient method of feminine hygiene protection. No need to touch the flow. It is worn low in the vagina, not near the cervix, so it is easy to remove. No mess and no excessive waste like tampons or pads! Diva Cup can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time before emptying and reinserting and makes all activities a breeze! No need to worry about comfort when working out or swimming or anything you would like to do that the traditional tampons and pads might make you shy away from. And YES you can use the Diva Cup overnight.
Available in 2 size options, it is easy to find which one you need: Model 1: For women under 30 years old who have never delivered vaginally or by Cesarean section and Model 2: For women over 30 years old and/or for women who have delivered vaginally or by Cesarean section.
I have to admit when I first got my Diva Cup in the mail I was a bit intimidated and nervous however after reading the directions (a few times lol) so I knew what to do and how to use it I was ready to give it a try. It did take me a few tries to get used to putting it in however just like it says, once it is in you can’t feel it at all! I love that the Diva Cup is BPA-free, Latex-free and plastic-free and there are no dyes, colors or additives to worry about being harmful to your body.
I am a busy mama, chasing a little toddler around and trying to keep track of my teen definitely has me on the go. I never know what is going to be thrown in my lap and having my period can’t slow me down so having this comfortable, eco-friendly period solution has been amazing for me. The flexibility of being able to wear the cup for 12 hours at a time is also great for busy women no matter what age.
Available online and at many local stores for $39.99, consider the cost of a Diva Cup which can be used for a full year before replacing to what you spend typically on other not so green options and make the switch based on that alone!
