Taking Control of Your Period

Through our ongoing journey of ‘going green’ I have found that the more chemicals we get rid of the better off we are.  This has shown true in all aspects of our life from our household cleaners to food and most recently physical and mental health.  I am trying to be healthier and more green in every aspect of our lives.

I have shared before that I recently started using the Instead Softcup as a more natural menstrual option; even the most natural tampons are subject to a bleaching process whereas the Softcup is hypoallergenic, and made from non-irritating materials and is latex free. That definitely gives me piece of mind, making me feel better about my choice. Now how can I manage my PMS symptoms more naturally?

Some common PMS Symptoms are:

  • Bloating
  • Depression
  • Food Cravings
  • Cramping/Pain
  • Fatigue
First I think that it should be a priority to take it a bit easy when you are on your period, don’t overexert yourself  (in general not only when during this time of the month) and know your own limitations.  Make sure and stick to your regular routines within reason including your workout schedule.  You might feel sluggish and tired (fatigue) however don’t skip your regular exercise, even a brisk walk will actually boosts your energy level and improve sleep which in turn will help alleviate fatigue in the future.  Regular exercise is proven to boost your mood therefore reducing the chance of depression too. Softcup is great for any type of workout regimen too!  Check out how I use Softcup when I exercise!

I am very interested in starting to take vitamins and supplements along with a better diet and after a lot of research my curiosity has just increased.  There are several PMS symptoms that are reduced with simple vitamin and food choices.  Calcium is said to cut PMS symptoms in half!  And avoiding fatty foods and alcohol can curb fatigue and bloating (which might help with cramping and pain).  Eating a well balanced diet alleviates many cravings not only during your period but all month long.

By simply taking care of yourself you can make your monthly menstrual symptoms decrease and increase your energy at the same time.  Who knew going green and making more natural choices makes for not only a better planet but a better YOU!Make sure you connect with Instead Softcup on Facebook and Twitter for PMS support and green living solutions!
