It’s my first official diaper review and giveaway on MY blog and this one is seriously my favorite diaper! I was fortunate enough to not only get a chance to review the newly debuted fitted diapers but I was also a tester for WAHM extraordinaire Andrea who is also the owner of Rosebud Diaper Boutique. You can order online and if you are a local you can drop in and shop, try things on your little one or just chat with Andrea and her sidekick Rosie that the store was named after. After being laid off recently Andrea decided she was going to start her own line of diapers and after toting around with names and logos she came up with a perfect fit and called them Roots. Andrea’s previous job was in conservation and her love of the outdoors and nature (you can’t tell by her daughter’s name huh?) make Roots a great name for her creations. Something I really love is that she hand draws each tag so everyone is one of a kind. You can see the little roman numeral on the lower right side showing the size and the stitching so the edges purposely fray, isn’t that cool? Two of my tester diapers don’t even have these adorable tags because they weren’t named Roots until after we had been wearing them for awhile (well Little T wore them, they didn’t quite fit me!)
Although Andrea first started out trying to have Roots be a one sized diaper she ended up changing them to be 2 sizes, size I for approximately 9 to 20 pounds with the rise stretching up to 16 inches and size II for approximately 20 pounds up to potty training with a rise of up to 17.25 inches. So you want to know what these squishy diapers are made of you say? The outer fabric/print is typically made of cotton however Andrea also does one of a kind hand drawn artistic prints on organic bamboo fleece (OBF) which is more absorbent than the cotton as OBF is used a lot as an inner absorbent layer. There is a hidden inner layer of organic hemp fleece (OHF) and a layer of organic bamboo velour (OBV) next to baby’s skin. Each diaper comes with a simple rectangle lay in stlye insert (that is compatible with other diapers if you are in a pinch!) that consists of OHF and OBV.
These diaper are VERY absorbent yet super trim at the same time. My little one hasn’t worn a cover with these diapers yet as he hasn’t needed one, and he naps in his Roots all the time. Some of my other favorite features of this diaper are the hidden belly snap closure (for those of you that don’t know I am a HUGE fan of snaps and hidden snaps are even better!), low rise that hits under the belly (this was a great benefit for us as Little T has a short rise), tapered rise for a trimmer fit through the legs which helps as Little T has chunky thighs and something I had never seen until Roots~belly elastic. This is so fabulous, not only for those babies that are belly sleepers and experience gaps which lead to wetness but also for those explosive blowouts that every mom has experienced. This diaper can hold it ladies, no matter what you are feeding your kiddos! Not to mention these diapers clean up spectacularly!
As I said Tatie baby had chunky thighs and these were a great fit (both the tester diapers and the finished products). The gentle 3/8 inch elastic was soft and never left marks on his thighs or belly. I also love the fit in the crotch area, not too wide and not too narrow. With summer coming and the warmer weather having a nice stash of these will be great for letting your little ones hiney have some air and not have to worry about getting their clothes wet, although I do know Andrea is working on wool to go with these fabulous fitteds that she stocks weekly now at Rosebud Diaper Boutique.
I know I went a little picture crazy but I wanted you all to see how the fit is, and these are only shots of the finished products, if anyone wants to see shots of the awesome tester diapers just let me know and I can post them!
